Virtual host/MC for clubs and special events
Yet
another dimension of nightclubbiz.com :)
Listen to Voice Demo -> Excerpt of a recent show live
at the club
Hey
Now :-) I still run the booth when necessary and also because
it's a blast. I'm also doing a couple of live Internet broadcasts
for nightclubs around the world. See more details below.
WOW!
Fun with a cool light show, and not a bad crowd for 10:50
PM. One 10-watt argon, one 10-watt Krypton, and a 40-watt
Yag to boot!
See here
So
what do you want to know?
Do
you always talk this much?
Well... This excerpt is a bit of an extreme, but for demo
purposes I thought it'd be appropriate. During early night
in a club, I like to mess around more. Clubs can be difficult
to get busy much before midnight in most cases, however through
a handful of experimental approaches, I've had some success
at building a good turnout as early as 10:00 PM. So no.. Unless
we're messing around with an early night room, I don't talk
this much.
Do
you do radio?
Generally
not
My on-air personality is customized to a party bar
type of environment. If a live to air is running, I'll host
it, but radio is not something I've ever pursued and largely
due to its restrictive nature. The net revenue off a nightclub
also pays a little better than radio :-)
Is
a nightclub live to air show worthwhile?
Yes,
no, and maybe
You need to match the club with the right
station. Done properly, a live to air can pack a club solid
very quickly, and early in the night as well. So what's the
problem then? Many clubs jump onboard with the wrong station
or format. A number of stations do NOT have experience hosting
a live to air radio show, nor the live host personalities
suitable for a nightclub party.
You really want to A: Work with a station experienced in nightclub
live to airs, and B: Make sure the stations music is in sync
with that of the clubs. C: As with everything in a nightclub,
you don't simply slap it together -you need to do you research
and plan it out, or
Don't bother doing it at all.
Can you open the night in our club?
Yes, as long as you have a laptop and broadband connection
in the DJ booth, I can open for your main act /DJ. These are
generally the hours between 9:00 PM and midnight. If you're
looking for some alternative to automated /randomized music,
this may be something to consider.
Can
you perform live at a club?
We'll
see... Depends on the offer. Most live performances I do in
a club now are generally part of a larger consulting arrangement
with the operation, as opposed to working as a standalone
DJ. Clubs that officially that take me on board are obviously
troubled, and one thing that's almost always a disaster is
the entertainment component. In this case, I take an active
role in the booth until the talent necessary to operate it
can be procured.
But
by all means... If you have something interesting for me,
let me know here.
Are
you always this suggestive on a mic?
That depends on the room, mood of the crowd, and management
policy. If management so chooses, I maintain a conservative
posture. However we "ARE" the nightclub business,
and 75% of peoples interests seem to evolve around something
of a sexual /sensual connotation. Again
Unless it's
my club, it's ultimately up to management
Can
you make direct announcements to our guests?
You
mean like requests, birthdays, drink specials, club announcements
etc? Yes
They can be sent to me via messenger or yahoo
chat. Easy on the song requests though, otherwise you don't
really need me. For all request music, you can simply program
those into media player where they'll be played back in the
order they were entered. My music knowledge spans across several
eras and styles, so I can customize content to any club or
event.
How
much experience do you have? I started in the booth
when I was 12. I pack 14-years in the booth as a club DJ and
Pro MC. I won't go into my entire entertainment history since
age 12, as it could easily eat up 20-pages or more :-) Let's
just say I posses an extensive background in entertainment
knowledge.
You
only play the hits?
Frankly,
I've never looked at content that way. I'm driven by revenue
performance, as that's what's in the best interest of the
business. Maybe I view it that way, as I'm one of the few
DJ's that have actually operated nightclubs and understand
the business side of the equation. Working the booth is not
about what YOU want, what YOU like, or YOUR preference to
music -it's about returning the note on a $300,000 to 6-million
dollar investment in a VERY short period of time.
Once
a DJ has actually experienced the weight of this burden, he/she
may view their position in the booth somewhat differently.
Remember
I've been working with broken nightclubs since
1994 and believe me.. The damage I've had to cleanup in the
wake of DJ's who thought they knew what was best for a
room has been substantial to say the least. DJ's can
make a club money, but can just as easily plunge a club into
chapter 11!!
So
you think you're good?
Nope
I don't think stuff like that. I'm simply an option out of
many. My approach works well in environments wanting to build
a high-energy party, (AKA the Party Bar) so to speak. I've
made the most money in these venues, so yeah.. I guess I'm
somewhat partial to them. Big city, trendy nightclubs pursue
an entirely different vibe, which I respect. I just have no
interest in working those rooms. I like high audience
interaction, otherwise I bore quickly.
So
you're really the owner of nightclubbiz.com?
Snicker... I've received a handful of emails with the question:
Is that really you? Loooool
. Yeah of course it's me!
What did you expect a nightclub entertainment geek to look
like? Some little fruit loop dressed in a suit and tie? Really
Unless I'm working the booth, I keep an exceptionally low
profile in the operation. I don't require ego stimulus through
flamboyant promoting of my status, such as owner, consultant,
or manager. Outside of the booth, I prefer to work quietly
behind the scenes observing the operation /always looking
for a way to increase revenue performance.
Supplementary:
July 16th: It appears that many are /were under the impression
that anyone claiming to be a nightclub consultant of sorts
'does not' actually work the on-floor operation in any capacity.
I'm not sure how this impression came about, nor what other
so-called consultants are doing if they're not active on the
floor in some capacity. I won't even attempt to guess... As
for me, I'm quite to get my hands dirty in the physical operation
when necessary :-)
What's
with the shades?
Cause
my eyes are sensitive to bright lights, which there are plenty
of in a club, so now they've become habit.
You're
sitting down -are you a big fat slob?
No.. I'm almost 6-feet and 164 lbs, so average I guess. Someone
asked this, as it was presumed I must be hiding something
if sitting down. lol... Funny question :-)
