No doubt, the content on the Nightclubbiz.com site can make us look like all work, no play, and no sense of humor. In all honesty, only when it comes to the business aspect of the operating nightclub… :)

There is another side to the site founder Dave H. One that is crazy, risqué, and over the edge sometimes. I'll warn you… When I'm in DJ Dave Live mode, I do not resemble anything near the tone you've observed on the Nightclubbiz.com pages. This is the real nightclub side of me and I'm not giving it up for anything!

Some details about the show you should understand first

My shows are not static, in that I do not advertise a particular style or format -a one fits all so to speak. The DJ Dave Live shows are customized to the 'specific' needs of each venue. Yeah… I went through that whole stage of "I only spin this, or I only spin that", etc. I got over that when I was 20. I read a room -I don't simply play to it.

There is one consistency however, and that is my music. Busted! I'm a pop music junkie. Be it the 2010 stuff, 80's, 70's dance, or even slow jams, I maintain content that 80% of a room can identify with at any given moment. I know most club DJ's hate that, but I am not most club DJ's. I am not claiming my shows are for everyone, and anymore than the guy that limits his/her content to hardcore dance is a fit for every venue. As entertainers, we need to choose what works for us. It's rarely a question of who or what is better, but more a question of what works for the specific venue.

And yes… DJ Dave actually talks

WOW… A club DJ that talks. OMG… What's the world coming to? LOL!. More reasons why I am not well liked by the club scene DJ's. Truth is, my focus as a live entertainer took a slightly different path than most. I became painfully board with just being a record spinner. Then I went through the whole beat mixing phase… Even entered into several competitions. Got board with that… Pretty soon, working the booth was becoming similar to a labor job for me. The hours would just drag…

In the first club I worked, the owner had been the DJ there for 15 years, prior to purchasing the operation. He had a killer voice and chicks loved him. This venue I was working hosted 3 live on-stage contests a week. Wet T shirt… Wet willy, and amateur strip night. These were sold out nights, with the place packed solid by 9:00 PM. Was insane…

I listened to the owner host those shows… Then one night…. I was tossed up onto that stage under 25,000 watts of stage lighting. I was given the mic… And instructed to host the wet T shirt contest. Yikes… I actually froze on my first round. The next time I did talk, but sounded like Elmer Fudd. Yeah… The owner was co-hosting the event with me on a second Mic. He actually called ME Elmer Fudd in front of a live audience!

I think the audience was laughing at me more than the contest. But after 4-weeks of hosting an amazing thing happened…. I discovered that I was in fact blessed with an on-air personality. I just had to find it.

The owner was continuously calling the booth on regular nights hounding me to say some funny shit into the mic… Warned me that the success of this venue was reliant on a highly interactive DJ… One that could relate to the room and most notably the female audience. Told me… They "did not want a beat mixing monkey here". Either learn how to work the room on-air, or leave… That is the bottom line. Yeah… He actually called me up to the office and told me this. Nice words, huh?

So here I am… 21 years old and given the reins to the hottest, most busiest club within a 100 mile radius. Our club was packed for a good reason and shut down 5 other competition attempts over a 6 year period, and why? We had the hottest party… Best music, and best DJ personalities. We had a social atmosphere that was nothing short of… Electrifying. Age demographic? 24, to 43. We were packed solid Tuesday through Saturday nights. No one could touch us.

So there was no way in hell I was going to give this up. It was like being given a 747 to fly at 21… How often does that happen? So I worked 3-hours a day in the club (empty), working on my voice skills. Was not exactly how I wanted to spend my summer, but… The investment paid off. I got good. So good, they fired the other 3 DJ's and gave me a full 5-night week. Why did they do this? At that time, the other DJ's were resulting in final ring-off /cash outs of $3,100, to 3,350. The DJ Dave Live shows were approaching an average of $4,500, to $5,100 in total revenue and climbing, and… Our ratings were off the scale.

Even at age 21, it actually became strange going to other nightclubs where all you'd hear is 128, to 144 BPM beat synchronized dance beats all night. Was almost eerie sounding… No voice ringing over the PA? No flirting with the hot chicks over the mic? No audience interaction? Not even a peep? Wtf? I can turn on my FM radio and hear this, LOL!

Where and how are the DJ Dave Live shows appearing right now?

That's a long story, but in short, they're being broadcasted over the Internet to audiences of 50, to 300 people at the moment. Most of my shows are part of a much larger social entertainment experiment, which is "virtual nightclubs". Yeah, that should blow your mind and… The results thus far are nothing short of amazing. My shows in this case, have been modified to meet our core objectives of the entertainment component. The only real difference in these broadcasts, is that I engage in considerably more interaction with the listener audience than I would in a real life nightclub. So yeah… More acting like a total idiot on the air. It does work, however and works well.

I have broadcasted into a few real life nightclubs, but not as the headliner act -just as an opening act. The quality is awesome by the way… I push the bit rate from 192 Kbps, to 320 Kbps when broadcasting into a large commercial PA rig. This quality is actually overkill in most cases, but ensures good audio performance. Have not done a lot of broadcasting into the real clubs yet, but focusing the objective on an early night audience. Clubs often have a hard time gaining traffic much before midnight, so much of what I do is play the music the main act does not, while trying to pre-heat the room before the midnight hour.

So you're an active DJ then?

Sort of yeah, sort of not. Again, the purpose of bringing the DJ Dave Live Show back online is part of a much larger project, which is a virtual nightclub test pilot. Other than that… It's more of a hobby for me right now, and or a leisure diversion where I can stop being serious for a few hours and be a complete idiot, LOL!

So there you have it… In a nutshell that is history of the DJ Dave Live show. It's not for all, but put into the right venue, it can be a blast!
